| Les Baer Prowler
Does anyone know the history of this gun. I have recently found two of them for sale and they appear to be extremely well built pistols. My only concerns are that Les currently does not catalog these guns, and I'm wondering if there was any particular reason why there were discontinued. Both pistols are in the $1600- $1800 price range and barring any major flaws are these fair prices. As always any insight is greatly appreciated! |

Had several come through my hands over the years. The Prowler 3 is the single stack version, which I'm guessing is what you are referring to. It is the first Les Baer I ever kept for my personal use. I always liked the look of the cone barrel, and the extra muzzle weight keeps the muzzle down somewhat. I think they were discontinued a couple of years ago, maybe for lack of interest, or maybe because they probably aren't "legal" in some of the gun games. I always appreciated the fit of the stub weight against the end of the slide. I think the last retail on the gun was about $1895.00, but I could be wrong. I come across used ones occasionally, but they don't seem to last too long! All that I had were nicely finished. Hope this helps a bit. Allan |

I do know one that still owns one and his is very, very, pleased with the lock up and the return to target with the bull barrel and cone on the end. Only complaint was not a "real" complaint as the owner expected more out of a blue finish in an outdoor, in the element and holster use environment. He forgot blue steel rusts and blue steel wears when used. The owner sent it of to get it refinished with one of the "teflon poly" wonder finishes you hear about. (Armortuff, Baercoat, Black T or whatever) Finish still wears but ZERO corrosion in any outdoor environment. Owner has used it on a few Javelina hunts since then. Gun has about 6 years being owned and used. Still runs like a champ. Hope this helps. |

I have a prowler IV, built early 90's on a P-14 frame I supplied to Les. Black-T finish. Gun shoots like a smooth easy dream.
