MY BROTHER RESENTLY BOUGHT A SA CHAMPION MODEL AND EVERY SO OFTEN THE SLIDE WILL LOCK TO THE REAR WITH ROUNDS STILL IN THE MAGAZINE. IS THIS DO TO A BAD MAGAZINE, CHEAP/WEAK AMMO OR A MORE COMPLEX ISSUE? IT HAS HAPPENED WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF AMMO AND ON MORE THAN ONE RANGE SESSION. THANKS FOR THE HELP!!

First, make sure that your brother is not touching the slide stop with his weak hand if he's using a two-handed grip (especially a "thumb-forward grip) when he shoots.

Your slide stop may need some attention. Your cartridges may be contacting the lug of the slide stop as the round is being chambered. Some fitting may be required. Or you may need to put a little "dimple" in the slide stop, where the slide stop plunger contacts the stop itself. This indent may help keep it in place (due to the plunger spring tension) until the mag follower itself contacts the slide stop lug when the mag is empty.

Suggest you consult a smith if you're not sure what the problem is, or how to correct it!

Welcome to the forum...

Shane is on target...You might consider sharing a little more info though...

The age of the pistol, stock, new, etc.
The ammo used...
The magazines and the # of rounds of all kinds fired and which ones were evident during the "problem"...All these may be helpful and will give us a better "picture" of what's happening!
K?
Once again...Welcome

THANKS GUYS, THE PISTOL IS A SA CHAMPION MODEL "LOADED",STOCK. IT IS NEW AND HAS FIRED MAYBE 200 ROUNDS THROUGH IT WITH VARIOUS TYPES OF AMMO (I KNOW OF UMC,BLASER AND SOME RELOADS WE BOUGHT AT A GUN SHOW). IT WILL LOCK BACK AT RANDOM TIMES USING DIFFERENT MAGAZINES AND HAS PROBABLY LOCKED BACK TEN TO FIFTEEN TIMES.WE WERE USING SUPPLIED SA MAGS, A CHIP MCCORMICK AND AN OLD KING'S MAG. THIS HAPPENED WHEN HE AND I BOTH FIRED. IF YOU WANT MORE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW WHAT THEY ARE AND I'LL TRY TO ANSWER EM. THANKS AGAIN ALL!!

Were there any failure-to-feed, or ejection problems as well?

Please "do not" buy no name gun show reloads.
If your buying cause its cheap its not worth it.
If your purchasing lead reloads for steel shooting
know the manufacture befor you buy get refs.

AS stated above your slide stop is engaging during
a string of fire.

Correct inspection / repair referenced by SHANE.

1) Identify each magazine with tape or something...#1,#2 etc

2) Identify the ammunition used with the identified magazine at the next problem.

3) Tell us how long you've been shooting and what experience you have with 1911s and other firearms...

...Buy factory ammo...

I see this problem all the time in a lot of different guns. Sounds like the bullets are bumping the slide stop. Is you slide stop chrome plated? You can cut back the slide stop a little bit to give you more clearance, and if necessary drill a small detent into the slide stop where it interfaces with the pin coming out of the plunger tube.
