Para veteran, smithing newbie

Greetings all and thanks for the resource.

I have a Para 14-45 which I have beaten the hell out of, and it has been a very reliable gun. I was considering doing some upgrades, but lack the knowledge to shop effectively for parts.

I'd like to replace the fixed sights with adjustable. Do I have to use the Para factory sights or can I buy Novak or an equivalent?

I would also like to replace the safety with an ambidextrous. Again, do I have to go Para or will another work?

Lastly, it is the dread "Covert black" finish, which is showing wear. What are my options for refinishing?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.....

Welcome to the forum!
I have built up several Para P14, P13 model Para's and like to use Ed Brown Parts, as well as Novak's for sights. For ed Brown parts and any parts you can use World's Largest Supplier of Gun Parts, Gunsmith Tools & Shooting Accessories - Brownells, get one of their catalogs if you can, a lot of info in the book and on the web. In regards to sights, Novaks has about a 1 week turnaround if you send them the slide. i have had several pistols done. Welcome to Novak's
Most of the parts on a P14 are the same as the 1911, except the mag release and the trigger. hope this helps. regards.

Welcome, and good luck. I hope you get some pics up. This site seems to have a need for more pics. I'm guilty of not doing it too. I'm gonna work on that though.

So I am interested in putting this sight on, but it looks like a Bomar cut. I think I read that a Bomar won't work on the P14-45 due to interfering with the firing pin plunger. Anyone know different?
