para ordnance pistol

Just bought a used pistol from son in law...He is currently deployed overseas again. So i cant ask him. My question is i want to buy a holster for this handgun. How do you determ the barrel length? It is a 1911 style double stack 45..Where do you get the measurement from? From the trigger forward? Any help would be appreciated..Thanks

Automatics go by barrel length.

You measure from the muzzle to the rear end of the barrel, visible in most guns at the REAR of the ejection port. That is, where the rear of the barrel contacts the REAR of the slide ejection port.
If you pull the slide slightly to the rear the slide will move back away from the rear of the barrel.

What holster to buy depends on the brand and barrel length
If it's a standard model 1911 type pistol, it'll be a 5 inch barrel.

Assuming it's a 1911 type pistol, holster makers usually go by Colt model names:
A 5 inch barrel model is a Government Model.
A 4 1/4 inch barrel is a Commander.
A 3 1/2 inch barrel is an Officer's.

As example, if you have a 5 inch barreled Para Ordnance, you'd look for a Government Model length holster made for the Para Ordnance.
If it's something else, you measure the barrel then look for a holster made for the barrel length and brand of the gun.
