Well...Okay. Just this once. This is about half the total. Flippin' newfangled camera went on the fritz before we could get the others laid out, and I never got around to buyin' a new one. Waste of funds anyway. Dogs gotta eat. Didn't get any of the revolvers or the really collectible 1911/1911A1 pistols. Five of the collectors are tucked away in a safe deposit box and ain't seen the light of day in years. In the box are a few little projects that I had on the bench at the time, but have since been finished. Mostly mine. A couple belong to an old compadre. ![]() ![]() |

Not a Government model in the lot with a newfangled rounded rowel type hammer. Keepin the faith. Makes a traditional style feller feel proud. Thanks for sharing. |

Yep, cohee. Have ya spotted the odd one of the bunch? The one that doesn't fit? Look close now. There's an odd one in the upper photo, bottom group. Last edited by JohnnyT; 05-03-2010 at 04:57 PM. |

In that group there appears to be a commander size 1911 with a Government model grip safety and spurred hammer. That it? I'm drooling too hard to be able to concentrate much. |

In that group is a slabsided 1918 Black Army Colt...with a Commander top-end. I aquired a 1918 Colt several years back. The slide had a recoil stress crack adjacent to the breechface, and the frame was too worn out to do much with it except lay it in the back of the safe and forget about it. I think I gave 75 bucks for it because of the sorry shape it was in. Worth it for the useable small parts. So...I forgot about it until 5 years ago, when I was in the middle of movin' here from King, NC. 6 months later, I picked up a complete Series 80 Commander top end in near-new condition at a Metrolina show. Didn't have a use for it, but I bought it. January rolled around, and I was bored...so I figgered...what the hell. Went and beat on the frame rails and fitted the slide. Faced off the flange on a FLGR that somebody gave me to make it thinner and regain some of the lost slide travel. Stuck'em together and tweaked it out...and I had me a sho'nuff conversation piece that shot like a house afire and ran like a Timex watch. It's so ugly that it hurts me to look at it...but it's a useful utility pistol that'll getcha out of one of those "Up to your crotch in Crocodile" moments...and if it gets skint up in the process...it won't even show. |
