| Is my hammer/sear negative or positive?
This is a picture of my RIA 1911 after 3 years and about 3000 rounds. Is my read of the engagement that there is no secondary angle and the primary is slightly negative and as such is now unsafe? ![]() Full Size: https://ibb.co/h4TCrc Last edited by frgood; 04-03-2018 at 07:46 PM. |

Looks bad. It can be corrected with a sear jig and fine stone. |

I'm hoping that is the case. To ensure the correct angle, I am concerned about taking off too much material, shortening the sear. I will go back to some books to ensure the sear length remains in spec. Thanks for the input. |

| it's hard to tell from that pic
a much closer, shot, at more of a 90 degree angle would help us see. A 3 sided file, then a 3 sided stone will restore the hammer hooks ONCE. If the angle was good from the start (doubtful) and 3000 rds (no dryfiring) did THAT, then your hammer and sear are too soft, and should be replaced.
