do 9mm govt 1911's need a ramped barrel

in order to be reliable? I've only had one 9mm 1911. before this one, It was an alloy Colt commander and fed fine, as long as I only loaded 8 rds. It was a colt, over 40 years ago. I dont recall what jhp's I tried in it. Probably 90 gr Sierras or Super vels, but it fed them ok. Current govt model wont feed for diddly. The barrel does seem to move foward with the slide a bit. So, does that mean a barrel link problem? the bushing's finger removable, but snug. not really tight on the barrel. Wont even fed ball ammo. Don't see how it's an extractor problem, when it does the barrel-dragging thing when empty.
