Okay, I have Barney Rubble digits and usually have to reach a bit unnaturally to disengage the thumb safety. I know that Gunsite used to have a low mount one but heard hit and miss opinions of it. Which would be best for my situation -- Wilson, Kings, Brown, Swenson or other (someone recommened a WWI safety)? This will be for a carry gun so ambi is not needed and wide is not desired. Thanks in advance! |

Kings. The pad starts further to rear, giving short thumbs more ledge and more leverage. I find however, that the Kings parts needs more work than any other to make it "right". It is kind of a rough casting |

Look at the "Low Mount" thumb safety offered by "Gunsite"...I've got 'em on TWO 1911's...with the "lowered" shelf, it works GREAT with my somewhat-small hands....mikey357

Gunsite's Low Thumb safety isn't currently in production, and as of a couple of months ago, none were in stock. I still make the part as a custom job, and IMO, it has a better feel than the one I originally designed for Gunsite. I use Colt safeties as a base part. The one limitation you may have heard about is that when firing with the left hand, the big knuckle of your trigger finger can have a tendency to bump the safety up.

Barney Rubble, you can do what a lefty "has" to do with a pistol with only a standard safety...that is to use your index finger to manipulate the safety. You have to re-grip, but you learn to adapt. Just a thought, or an other opinion. Bootleg
