Ed Brown Marine Sniper vs George Gardner's The Rock?
Has anyone seen or handled these in person? How do these two rifles match up? Is Gardner's considered a custom rifle and Brown's a semi-custom production rifle?

Never shot a Brown, but I've shot a Gardner rifle (though not the Rock). The Gardner was first rate. Best damn precision rifle I've ever had a chance to shoot. If you're looking for a field rifle, I believe the Garder is as solid as a Chandler (which I've also have tried), for almost half the price.
I think the difference will be that with Brown's rifle you have to basically take it as is. With George Gardner, you can have the rifle built exactly as you want it. There are two especially great modifications done by Gardner, that you should look at especially if you're going to build of a Remington 700 platform. First is the SSG style bolt and the second is his modified bolt stop. I've tried the large bolt handle and for me, it will be an absolute must when I send my rifle to Gardner (ok, I'm a little biased, since I've already decided on Gardner for my rifle project). Good luck in your decision.

Hoser, if you're interested in a Brown Marine Sniper, I know where there is one with a Nightforce scope on consignment. Looked at it today and it was pretty nice. Nicer than I had imagined, actually. If I were really a true precision rifle guy, I would probably go for it. E-mail me if you want some details.
