| Optics for <$600
In the <$600 price range, what optics would you recomend for a 700 VLS in .223? I don't have the gun, I'm just thinking about getting one instead of a semi-auto for recreational target shooting. Range will probably be 75-200 yds, conditions will be good. Not for hunting or anything rough, just punching hole's in paper. I want something good, but I don't want to pay for a VX-III or anything that fancy.

| Fixed power with Stoney Point add on target knobs
Fixed power with Stoney Point add on target knobs - almost anything from 6X up to my choice 16X - although with 16X fixed (and just as much so with a variable) depth of field is quite limited. You don't need the 30mm tube and adjustments for the extreme ranges that are so popular these days to have if not to use. FREX Leupold M8 Scope 12x 40mm Adjustable Objective Fine Duplex Reticle Gloss - with good mounts should be right around $400 new - installed lapped if desired and ready to go. |

Elite 4200 4x16x40 on my 700 police is a gem. And in my opinion the brightest scope around for the money. I've got a fine duplex reticle which is great for target work. You won't regret it.

ive got the natchez flyer sitting here and a lot of the vx-III's are listed under 600. www.natchezss.com 4.5-14x matte with duplex reticle $489.99 part#rs1lu55094 might be a starting point. you can also try looking at www.swfa.com -my mind is a little fuzzy on that one thoughmay not be right address.

Thanks, I wouldn't have found those by myself. What about bases and rings?

If the price isn't too much stick with Badger Ordnance rings and bases. However, if you need to save some bucks, there have been good reports from some who have tried the rings and bases from TPS, which are a little cheaper but appears to be well made.

Another place to try with low prices is "www.bullseyesupplies.com", sorry but I don't know how to make a link yet. Also their wait time is on the order of a month, but dang they've got good prices!
