Charter Arms Undercover 38 Spl.

Gentlemen,

I was given a Charter Arms Undercover 38 Spl. today. The previous owner did not take care of it and did a few mods which were not done well. It needs a new Firing Pin, Grips, Hammer, and the trigger guard is pretty beat up. The cylinder also seems to have some wabble when the cylinder is open, but when closed she is in time and locks up well. Is this worth the effort to bring back to good condition or should I not waste my time? Thank you for your input in advance.

Charter Arms Undercover

It's been a while since your post, but since I have a couple of these pistols and am familiar with them I might add my 2 cents worth.. First, I purchased mine new, and they are great little guns. In fact one of them (with Barami hip grips) resides under the seat of my El Camino. The only problem is that used they are only worth $100-125.00, and from the description you give of the one you have it would cost that much for parts, then you still might not have much. Mine have been worth every penny, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another for self defense, I just don't think spending money on one that has been altered, abused as you describe is money well spent. I would recommend you look around at pawn shops until you find a good "original" and buy it. I found a very nice used Colt Cobra for only $275 in a pawn shop, and it's actually a high quality little pistol. If you are planning to use whatever pistol you have for self-defense, please bit the bullet and either buy something used that has been taken care of, or something new.. Don't be cheap when your personal safety (or that of your family) might be at stake. Best Wishes.
