taurus mod. 76!

hi folks........i bought a mod.-76 TAURUS revolver.
in the books it lists it as a .32 mag.,
but in fact it will only take the .32 LONG cartrige.
does anyone have any ideas what up with this gun?
oh, by the way it looks just like the K-38 s&w with a 6" heavy ribed barrel., & fully adj. sights.
ruffbird.

Dear Ruffbird,

Really, the Taurus 76 is chambered for the .32 S&W Long cartridge. This gun is also known as TA-32, the "TA" meaning "Tiro ao Alvo" (Target Shooting, in Portuguese). The 86 model (TA-38 ) is chambered for .38 SPL, and the 96 (TA-22) is chambered for the .22 LR.

The Taurus 76 could be modified to chamber the .32-20 cartridge. It´s a very popular hunting cartridge here in Brazil.

Dear Ruffbird,

The main game for the .32-20 here is the "capivara" (Hydrochoerus capybara), the largest living rodent on the world. It's slightly larger than a big pig. The guns in this caliber available here are the old Winchester lever-actions, the CBC 151 single-shot and the rare bolt-action Chapina, an almost hand-made gun.

But is more practical to use the Rossi Puma carbine chambered for the .38 SPL or even .22 LR rifles (our backwoodsmen hunts jaguars with old .22 LR single-shot rifles, believe or not!), because the CBC (known in U. S. like Magtech), the only ammo factory in Brazil, stopped the production of the .32-20 ammo about three years ago. But the .32-20 still remains an excellent hunting cartridge for Brazilian game. Today, only the handloaders remains hunting with the .32-20.

Believe or not, ten years ago, I read an article on a Brazilian gun magazine about a Brazilian doctor that went to Canada to hunt black bears with a single-shot scoped CBC rifle chambered for the .32-20 and was sucessfully!

thanks again for the info. on the 32/20. it was interesting.
it is true, i think that our black bears can be taken with a small cal. gun but i wouldn`t recomend it. better to have .44 or .45 cal. heavily loaded.
any large animal with teeth and claws definatly needs BIG medicine.
thanks again........ruffbird.
