ruger SP101 trigger pull

anybody got an sp101 and a trigger scale? im curious as to what the factory single action pull weight is. seems i got my hands inside one , and didnt think to check the factory pull weight before i started cutting and polishing. im happy with where i ended up , a nice crisp #4 single action pull, and a very smooth DA pull that i ballpark at about #10 ( too much for my scale). 8)

Yep. Lightest SP I ever saw tested was one gunsmithed by All Custom Firearms in AZ written up in Combat Handguns by Mike Detty some time back. I think the DA was about 7.75 pounds but he got some misfires. My experience has been on tuned small frames (Colt Magnum Carry, SP) if one wants to fire Magnum primers reliably about 8.25-8.5 pound double action is required. To go low one needs min. headspace and endshake and max firing pin protrusion (which is a problem on some Ruger revolvers). Bowen, in his custom revolver book, details how to increase the firing pin protrusion.

I just bought a SP101 chambered in .357 magnum last week. I can't attest to its accuracy, but my RCBS trigger pull gauge indicates ~5.5 lbs. single action.
Double action pull is too high for my gauge to measure.

I must say though, in spite of the SA/DA trigger pulls being somewhat heavier than what I'm accustomed to, the SA is surprisingly crisp and the DA is quite smooth.

Bottom line: I believe at this point I'm going to leave my SP101 'as is'.
