Plunger and spring assembly on SP101

I have recently ordered a replacement plunger (Ruger part #KH05100) and spring (KH05000) from Brownell's to replace the spring/plunger assembly I lost from the trigger group.

My question is, how do you assemble the spring onto the plunger?

The schematic does not illustrate the part in detail, but an image I found online when I googled the ruger part # shows a thicker portion of the shank that I will need to get the spring over for it to seat in a narrower portion just below the plunger body itself.

Basically it's the same situation as putting together a plunger spring assembly for a 1911 (I've never done that, either ).

This may be a basic question but it's standing between me and getting that SP101 up and running again.

Thanks in advance for any help

You basically push and "screw" the spring on the plunger until it snaps into the reduced section.

Sometimes it helps if you "unscrew" the spring as you push, as this sometimes allows the spring coils to open up more and fit over the plunger.

Thanks, dfariswheel. I will try that out. What I was most concerned about was there was some "simple" trick to it that I just hadn't figured out, and I didn't want to go about it all wrong...

One thing I concluded I would do was use a vise I have to secure the plunger in before I start trying to get the spring on it. A third hand will make things easier, I hope.

A dab of grease on the end of the plunger also helps.

success

Thanks for your suggestions, dfariswheel. Didn't end up being very difficult at all! Pistol is reassembed and next stop is the range.
