S&W M36 2inch

My M36 has a rough thumbpiece. When I push it forward to free the cylinder to pop out to the left it is very hard and wont open just by pushing the thumbpiece.I have to take my left hand using 3 fingers and pop cylinder open.Otherwise the cylinder revolves in normal manner but takes a great deal of pressure to open it and reload. How do I resolve this problem. After playing with it for awhile I fixed it by tightening the cylinder rod.
