| Ruger Mark II fixed sights
Can I move the rear sight to the left a little without a special tool? It is dove-tailed. Can I hit it with a brass punch & plastic hammer? My gun shoots about 1" low and a half inch left at 25 yards. Should I file down the front sight to correct the vertical position? What do you guys and girls think? Is there a better way to sight it in? Should I just take in in and have a gunsmith do the work? How much do you think he/she would charge? I have a lot of questions and no answers. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Al |

You can move the sight with a brass punch and hammer. I made up sight drifts from heavy brass flat bar stock. These didn't bend like standard brass punches. Put the gun on a well padded SOLID table or concrete floor to provide a solid no-give surface. You can file the front sight, but that will remove the finish. You can apply cold blue, but a more durable option is to apply a coat of flat black paint. |

This site was bigger long ago, then went out of business for a few years. When it came back, it no longer gets the traffic it once did. Another problem, is due to the interruption new people don't notice that many of the posts are years old. That's why you see people answering questions that were asked 10 years ago. |

Moribund sites either recover or drift along and eventually fail. This one is drifting. All it takes is for people to start posting for it to recover. |
