can the gas port location be changed on AR15 type rifles? for example, closing the old port on a short CAR barrel and making an opening for a mid length barrel? is this a good idea?
There's really no practical or effective way of closing a port.
Although it's physically possible, it always has "issues" with the inside of the bore.
Either there's a "bump" in the bore, or a shallow hole where the plug fails to go in far enough.
It might be possible to lap the bore to correct a too-long plug, but in a chrome lined barrel lapping is NOT a good idea.
