| Steel quality in AK 47 rifles
I would like some feedback on the steel used to manufacture AK 47 rifles. No particular brand or manufacturer. Primarily how well the steel takes blue. My experience is that its always a suprise how AK parts come out of the blue tank especially stamped receivers and parts. Anywhere from blued , no blue to gray. I have some telling me that AK parts are high quality steel. I just don't see this as they we mostly manufactured in communist countries where the name of the game was 'build them cheap.' Welcome all comments. Thanks. |

The alloys and heat treatment vary greatly, even amongst models from the same country. These guns are not good candidates for bluing in my opinion. They really need a good spray on finish or plating. Parkerizing before spraying on a finish seems to work good, but even the parking doesn't always come out matching.
