| Need help from Mini-14 buffs
About 15 yrs ago, I picked up a replace rear site blade for a mini-14 and I would give my eye teeth for another one like it to put on a stainless factory folder. Instead of the "Peep", it is an enlongated rectangular site with white outline down the sides and across the bottom of the blade, and open at the top. It is really fast on target. Someone told me that it may be a site that was installed on the very earliest mini-14th. Anybody ever seen one?

The VERY earliest Mini-14 had a close copy of the M1 Garand rear sight. Only a few were produced before Ruger realized it was going to up the price too much, so they quickly went to the standard peep sight they used until just recently. I suspect what you may have is a blade sight made for the Mini-14 Ranch Rifle by someone like Williams, with a white outline open blade instead of a peep blade. I'd suggest calling Brownell's and ask them who made it. If possible, get a good photo of the sight with a digital camera and email them so they can actually see it. |
