I'm in the market for a semi 22 rifle. Of course I've looked at the Ruger (lots of accessories) but was wondering what others are out there worth a look. I definitely don't need to go with the crowd. TIA

The Browning is sweet and accurate.
Thompson Center is another, but personally not impressed.
There is a 'knock off' of the Browning-not the same though. IMO YMMV

If you do not want a 10/22 right away .... must have more than one .... then I would look at the Marlin and Remington .22's if you didn't like that sweat little Browning botton ejection .22. Also for a little more, take a look at the Weatherby .22's as they are very nice too!

The best scope for the little Browning's was the old petite Redfield 7/8 inch tube scope. Just my two cents extra, for a bolt rifle not many would beat the origional and new version Kimber model 82.

A good trigger on a .22 is just as important as any other type of firearm. Hope this gives you a few more idea's. Mike

Thanks for the name of the scope- I couldn't recall.
My Doc/skeet partner has one, trying to convince him I need it more than his grandkids. Give them the nylon 66's-they weren't bad either.

He also has the browning lever, remember that one- shoots shorts, longs, long rifle-

umm yep i should get the 2 brownings and the grandkids get the nylon ones

Yep! Got a Browning Grade II lever action for my (x)wife, with the Redfield 7/8 scope & rings, plus a 2" S&W .22. She gave them to the female ? lawyer she had. What a waste! Hope you find a set or talk him out of them! I would look for the scopes first! Mike

I would go with the Ruger 10/22 factory Target model. I have owned most of the available 22 guns and stick with the 10/22's for semi autos.

The best semi auto 22 ever was the AMT 10/22 Team Challenge.

I would recommend the Ruger 10-22 with heavy bbl. Mine has a decent trigger and is extremely accurate. Standard velocity ammo seems to shoot better than the hv ammo. I have a Tasco 4-16 scope on mine and is will shoot one hole groups at 50 yds with the high dollar Federal ammo.

i also like something a little different

1. the browning is nice (take-down, bottom ejection, tube fed through stock) but a little light for my taste
2. the chinese knockoff is the narinco atd
3. browning also used to make an auto with the lines of the auto-5 (22 BAR?)
4. a real niffty .22 auto was the colteer (came in 2 lenghts and had a straight stock w/saddle ring)
5. my personal favorite is the weatherby XXII available clip or tube fed with beautiful claro stock w/real rosewood tip and cap. my set-up has the weatherby scope too

I went with the 10/22 Deluxe, something about blue/wood/checkering appeales to me.

Some nice 22's out there no doubt. Makes choosing tough. Then you get into the bolt actions, so little time - too many choices.
