Experience with Remington Police 11-87 ?

Anyone have good or bad experience(s) with the police version of the 11-87 ? Does anything seem to break, and how reliable are they ?
Thanks.

I once owned a Rem 11-87 Police Model and really liked it. In retrospect, I wish I had never traded it in! Never had any reliability problems but then again, it wasn't a duty weapon - just one I kept for fun and never really abused. These days for a shotgun I'm issued a 14" Rem 870 and prefer this over the semi. Why? Well, it's sort of strange reason. I'm just not all that comfortable with having a semi-auto single action trigger pull shotgun. Doesn't make sense I know since the 870 is single action as well but at least with that, my carry condition is: chamber empty, safety off, ready to pump and shoot while with the 11-87 I would think it would have to be round in the chamber, safety on. Strange as I have no discomfort at all about carrying my 1911 cocked and locked but I guess it's just me. On that note, I'd be curious to see what other people think and especially if there are any LEO's that are issued this weapon and what the carry condition for it is (round in chamber, safety on vs. empty chamber, safety off...or any other number of combinations).

I have owned one and never had any problems with it. I have since sold it though and went to a 870. Reason, I can have the pump with chamber empty and "pump" a round in the chamber. With the 11-87 it was loaded with safety on. For a home defense shot gun I wanted the pump action so i went with the 870.

11-87

Have never heard a bad thing about it. I have one on order and have shot one several times. I also have the 870 pump and love it too.

Rem 11-87

Its just OK...it is 1/2 way between a 1100 and a 11-87. it does not have the full 11-87 gas system and will only function with hibase buck shot or heavy loads...no walmart promo loads. Save up for a Benelli if you want an autoloader that will shoot everything. 870 for absolute reliability.

Benelli M-1

BobFord,
Benelli is a fine weapon I now have an M1. But I have to disagree, it will not fire everything. And neither has any that I have come across. I am not a gunsmith but I have been told autos are just picky. Due to the gas operation it takes alot of power to eject the shells. My Benelli has to have high power loads or it will not eject the shells. 8)

Sad but true about autos, you have to match the ammo to the gun. I've had an M-1, 11-87, and the new FN SLP. They are all very good guns but the bottom line is I'm building a Wilson Combat 870 with a Vang barrel now. Specifically, the 11-87 is the most compact of the bunch and very controllable. I doubt it's tolerance to extreme conditions and stripping is a little awkward but this hardly matters unless you are in a military situation.
