| 870 Action Binding
I recently picked up an 870 and upon taking it to the range for the first time the action binds when chambering a shell. The gun ejects shells without a problem but it is very difficult to chamber a new round. Any suggestions? Thanks! Ernieb |

I would check the obvious first - like a dirty chamber. Scrub it out.

Shane, Cleaned the gun and it still binds up a bit. Very hard to chamber a new round. |

Can you put a shell in the chamber by hand - ie, NOT cycling the action?

A friend of mine is having problems extracting a fired shell-the higher the brass, the harder it is to pull the spent shell. I believe that the chamber is undersized, and we're contemplating using a ball-type wheel cylinder hone to polish it up a little. I've owned a bunch of 870's and have never seen this problem before. This one is a Marine Magnum, if it matters. Not trying to hijack your thread ernieb, just figure our problems are related. |

I am currently working on a remington that binds when trying to chamber a shell. It works perfectly when dry chambering but binds with a shell and won't feed. Another gunsmith that had the same problem changed out his trigger group and that fixed his problem. Didn't fix mine. Where the smaller pin that holds the trigger group in, put a pin in that's about 10 thousands smaller that the original pin. If the weapon functions it means that the guy before you dropped the gun on the top of the receiver causing it to be out of speck just enough and you cans visibly see the damage. If that's the case you will need a new receiver. I know this because I'm fixing one right now. It took a lot of troubleshooting to find this problem. If you force feed the gun you will end up destroying the carrier dog. Good luck with the fix. |

Truly interesting to me at least Jim, but did you notice the dates on the previous posts? Those people have been inactive for years here.

Impressive you found such an effectively concealed problem in any case.
