MECGAR 17 rd 226 9mm Mags?

Howdy gents,

I know MECGAR is the OEM for SIG mags. I am looking to pick up some full cap mags for a 9mm 226 and came across some of these 17 rounders at a local show today.

I have heard they are good mags. Anyone have any first hand experience with them? Their prices are far better than the SIG-marked factory mags ($24), and another couple rounds certainly wouldn't hurt.

Thanks in advance.

Stay safe,

Yes they are good mags

I carry them as my duty mags with the 15's as backups.
I have never had any problems with the MecGar mags.
As far as I can tell the difference is in the follower to allow +2 rds.

With 2 17's and 2 15's plus 1 in the tube I can carry 65 rds on person.

MECGar 17 rounders

Mr. Dunn & Others,

Thanks for the feedback.

I actually found a post on these mags specifically over on the sig forum, and the praise was universal. As MECGAR is the OEM for SIG, I would expect such.

As it turns out, I picked up the last two the dealer had. It was getting late on sunday, and as he put it, it was 'time to be good to the customer time.' (or something like that). Got 'em both out the door for $45. Not too shabby.

I'll be giving them a workout here in the not too distant future and will report back. Just wish they had the more 'padded' style base plates as on the SIG factory units. Other than that, if they run 100%, I'll probably pick up a couple more.

Stay safe,

I haven't seen any 13 round mags. I have seen 18 round mags for the 226. I have been testing one for about 1,000 rounds. Outstanding performance, I'll be buying more.

I just called SIG and asked about whether or not Checkmate or MecGar is their standard magazine supplier. Answer: BOTH.

They use two suppliers to meet/fill demand and so whichever mags they have on hand ar the ones that go out with the pistols.

Totally luck of the draw.

Yes they are great. I actually bought two of these before I picked up my 226 during the panic. Never failed to lock back on empty mag. The pads are thicker which is nicer if your gun has the E2 grips. They have sharp edges at the bottom and the base pads round them out if you use the 226 for CC.
