Should I buy or pass?

I went to an Authorized Sig dealer and looked at a certified P229. It looked clean, with a tight slide and little wear on the barrel. When I asked him if I could take the slide off, he said no. Is this normal? They are also a pawn shop but make most of their money at gun shows. They are wanting $599 for a nitron P229 with night sights.

Thanks for your replies.

Ask them to take off the slide and if the answer is still no, then walk.

I can see both sides of this. Uspc40, it is understandable that you'd want to "look under the hood" of a used firearm, but I can understand their reluctance at letting the customers do this for themselves. Like RePete said though, the store should be willing to do this for you.

Try to understand that there are lots of "tire kickers" and "looky Lous" out there among the genuine customers, hence the store perhaps bristling a bit if they don't know you, or that you are serious about a purchase.

Hello Don. I don't really mind, but you've been engaged in communication with people who left these threads several years ago! (Well you can see I was part of this particular conversation back in June of '08 but stepped outside for a stogie. Did I miss anything? )

I smoke stogies too, Brian. I'd love to get some of those long lasting ones. What brand are they ? ? ?

Nothing sends my trophy bride into orbit quicker than the sight/smell of a El Producto cigar butt or curshed Pabst Blue Ribbon can.

Maybe I ought to get a turkish waterpipe and a keg. Would that be a little more classy?

There ain't gonna be a "trade in" on this bride. When she is gone, I will be satisfied to rent them by the half hour. Sure makes life simpler.

If I was smoking Cohibas at 8 bucks a pop and drinking Blue Moon, it would probably be the same. She is upset that I am enjoying myself, period.

Interesting sidenote. I was in a bar the other night with my 24 year old niece and her friend. They were making fun of a couple of guys at the bar drinking Coors Light. They thought the guys must be gay for drinking Coor's light. In this politically correct world, it is amazing that a 20 something (male or female) would have the stones to joke about something like this. Maybe things aren't as bad as we think.
