Sig 1911-22 front sight question...

I have this for about a month and after 2 trips to the range, decided that I needed to change out the front sight with one of the additional ones provided. Using the really small allen wrench provided, I was able to break the hex screw loose and remove the sight. Upon inspection, there was a bright metal circle under the sight - I expected there to be a tapped (threaded) hole for the sight screw but there was none. Then I thought that I may have snapped the original set screw when I removed it and I was looking at the snapped off screw flush with the slide.

So my question is to anyone who has removed/replaced their front sight on this pistol - is there a drilled/tapped hole or is the sight held by compressing the screw against the slide. When I added the new sight the hex screw didn't seem to bottom out which leads me to think I may have stripped the threads in the plastic.

I would have paid extra for metal sights (anyone know if they are available?)

Here's a pic of my 1911-22 (when new):

I have the GSG gun which is the same as yours with the exception of the Sig banner. Mine has a threaded hole under the sight. I would call Sig and ask to send it back to them. With some of the alloys they use, there could have been some gauling in the front site hole. Sig has a great customer service. Hope this helps.

I changed my sights and believe "the sight held by compressing the screw against the slide."

You may have stripped the threads.

It appears it would be easy to do.

If I were you I'd call Sig customer service (603) 772-2302 (press #3 and 1 for Customer Service)

I bet they will send you a new front sight.

I do not know if metal sights are available ... I'd like to know if you find out.

Here's my 1911/22

I really like mine too.

Let us know what you find out.
