| I ran into an odd S&W round butt grip frame
I'm new to this forum... I picked up a nice S&W Model 10-7 recently with 3-inch barrel. It has a round butt frame and came with Herrett's target grips. When I removed the target grips, I could tell there had been some trimming done inside to get them to fit correctly - didn't think much about it at the time. Then I found some nice used factory grips for the revolver and here is where it gets odd. The factory grips slip right on and line up with the back strap and upper part of the frame perfectly, but the bottom part of the frame curves about 1/4 inch wider than the factory grips - so the lower part of the front grip strap juts forward of the grip profile. I'm not a S&W K-frame revolver expert - just a hobbyist. However, my online research does not turn up any design changes to round butt K-frames. Anyone know what I have going on here? Can't figure out how to delete this post, but figured out my own question. Some numbskull partially converted a square grip frame to round butt! Nice job, but why would anyone do it? | Welcome to Pistolsmith. Someone chose to convert probably because he felt it was cheaper than buying another gun. There is also the possibility he wanted this particular gun roundbutted because he otherwise liked it so much.
