smith and wesson 642 problems

I'm thinking about buying a new 642 Smith & Wesson but I have serious reservations about the safety lock they've added to the newer revolvers. I already have a pile of pre lock J frames (36, 37, 60, 640) so I'm not hurting for a J frame. I'd like to have a lightweight hammerless like the 642 to carry instead of my weighty pre lock 640.

My question is...

Has anyone had any reliability/durability issues with the newer Smith's with the safety lock? If so tell us about them.

My ILIF problems are well documented here and around the web. Do a search on the word "oafishly" - I always include it when describing how my lock self-activated.

I believe in the KISS Principle. I do not trust locks on the new S&W Revolvers. All of my firearms are Social first and target shooting or hunting second.
I have over twenty nine S&W Revolvers and only one S&W with a lock and its a 625 that I was given. If it came to carrying it, the lock would be disabled in a manner that it would not lock the pistol.

I just don't trust locks, I'm afraid that they would fail at a crucial moment.
The less there is to go wrong, the better.

The 642-1 is available without the IL. SW made a run of them. I purchased mine NIB about 6 mos ago.
