XD 40 Vacation rust

I recently left on vacation and left my XD 40 in a humid enviroment and when I came home I found some surface rust, I tried to rub it off with oil and a cloth with little results. So I went to the scotch brite pad, removed the rust along with the parkerized coating. Does any ong know if Wilson Combat will Amour-Tuff the slide of the XD 40? If not want would be my best option, I am new to the whole hand gun hobby and dont know what to do so any help would be great. Thank you.

I would first see if Springfield will fix it for free. They might and they might not. If they do, from my experience and several of my fellow officers I would recommend selling or trading it before it fails when it should have fired. 8)

What are you saying spcwes? Why sell a perfectly good firearm like the XD? I've never seen surface rust affect the function of a firearm. I don't see that as a reason to get rid of it.[/quote]

87-51,
I have had a lot of experience with that weapon in that caliber and have had several go back to Springfield with FTF and FTE problems. I personally fired over 500 very annoying rounds through one to see if it just needed a good break in but no luck. In one case after sending it back to SA 3 times the officer gave up and went back to a glock 22. I have one officer that went with an XD 9 and loves it and has had zero problems. I have had 3 officers with XD40s fail over and over again. These guys are experienced shooters to say the least and take care of there weapons very well. Tried several different rounds and they all would fail before they mag was empty. That is what I am saying. Tried different mags, no luck. I am saying that I have not seen a perfectly good XD40 yet and probably won't because everyone I know that shoots knows about the 3 officers having 3 different XD40s fail and choose to by different weapons. If you got one that runs well I am happy for you. I have yet to see one that does. I guess that is what I am saying. 8)

Oh and to fully answer your question about the surface rust effecting the function. It just adds to my other response about them being an unreliable handgun. You can get a Glock for about the same money and I have had them in the swamp, mud, rain and sand and that is more than most people could have every thought of doing with there own weapons including most LE and have had zero failures and ZERO RUST. 8)
