Micro Compact FTF first round
I picked up a used Micro Compact a while back. Nice gun, but noticed every time I would put a new mag in it did not want to feed the first round using the slingshot method. If I drop the slide using the slide release it feeds every time. Noted this problem with every SA Mag, Colt Mag, and every unknown mag I own. I then purchased three Wilson Combat Mags and problem went away... Is there anything I can / should do to this gun... Seems reliable with the Wilson mags, but would be nice to use the box o mags I have in the basement too! Also wondering if a new recoil spring would help?

Compact 1911 based guns require more magazine spring tension than 5 inch guns. You could possibly fix the first round feed issue by installing stronger springs in your misc. mags, but it may not be worth the effort depending on what mags you have. The Wilson mags also hold the top round slightly higher than most .45 mags as do the Chip McCormick Power Mags and Tripp Cobra Mags. The good thing is that it works with the Wilson mags so you don't have any serious problems.
