Why STI 2011 frames have no rails at the magwell?
Maybe someone can tell me why the STI 2011 frames are made that way. Are they to save weight? I can figure the accuracy would still be there (Glocks only have four points of contact of frame rails to slide) but maybe someone can clue me in. I am familiar with four-point swage down of 1911 frame rails (accurizing).
Are the single stack STI frames made the same way?

I couldnt help but reply to this old thread in the interest of clarity. The frame rails are missing at the mag opening in the upper portion of the frame to circumvent Para Ords patent, not to clear the mag. I know for a fact that this was the case when these frames first came out. Something in the patent that reads along the lines of "...double column mag..leading to a solid or full length rail design. Hence, Caspian, SV, STI and any other double column 1911 frames have the missing rails at the magwell opening-legal frames anyways. Chuck Warner
