| Metalform Mags
I have six brand new Metalform mags for my Trojan 9mm. None of them will hold the slide back after the last round is fired. When inserting the mags empty, with the slide closed, the mags will not drop freely. From looking into the top of the gun and slowly pulling back the slide it appears as though the little step down part on the front of the follower is riding to high. I have no idea if this is interferring with the slide stop from working or not. Incidently the one factory mag I have works perfectly and aside from the follower the mag bodies appear to be identical in every respect. None of the offending mags will hold the slide back if I rack the slide with no rounds in the inserted mag. Any suggestions at this point would be useful. The closest gunsmith is six hours away. Should add the mags work in every other respect. |

STI was good enough to send a new slide stop and new followers for the mags. Pretty much solved the problem. Just very close tolerances I guess. I think the slide stop could have been made to protrude into the magwell just a hair more but gun functions pretty well now. Very accurate and a joy to shoot in 9MM. May get a Norinco in 9MM as well. I know I would have to spend about $500Cdn on new sights and trigger job and a few other minor things but would be an interesting comparison. I can get a new Norinco NP29, the 1911 version of 1911 for about $349Cdn.

| STI Trojan 9MM
Well a 'smith in Pr. George came up with the solution for the failure of the gun to lock back the slide on the last round. Turns out the recoil spring was to strong for the 9MM round. AT his suggestion I installed a 10# spring in the gun and now slide locks back after every round with all my mags. Pretty simple solution to a problem that is quite common. He thinks STI ships the guns with a 14# spring which is to strong for the 9MM round. I also installed a shok buff to protect the frame. You might want to sticky this solution under STI as from what I have read on the 1911 Forums this problem is quite common to the 9MM Trojan. |
