Info on STI Truesight

I noticed on STI's web site that they have a pistol called the Truesight. It is a Hi-Cap with a Commander length bbl. and an expansion chamber on the end. It looks very much like a compensator, but it is not.

Does anyone know what the expansion chamber accomplishes? Does it help accuracy, recoil, or is it just a place to stick the front sight so it doesn't cycle with with the slide?

They are calling the piece on the end an expansion chamber and that makes me think that it is a place for gases to "expand" away from the bullet to cause stabilization or something.

Enough of my guessing, I know some of you are knowledgeable and can explain it.

Thanks, Buddy

The "Trusight" is just

The "Trusight" is just STI's attempt to copy the system developed by SVI, the Sight Tracker. The Sight Tracker uses the same barrel as the race guns, but with no ports in the rib. The sight mounts on the rib, just back from the muzzle.

STI took SVI's basic idea, a barrel-mounted front sight, but put it on an uncut compensator because it was easier and cheaper than using the ribbed race barrels. I doubt that the "expansion chamber" does much, but it may function a little like a muzzle brake because the gasses will hit the front of the chamber, pushing the barrel forward.

If you want to see the original, go to www.sviguns.com or check out Front Sight magazine.

I went to the SHOT show and spoke with STI officials (including Mr. Skinner) and none of them could explain the "why" the gun shot softer. They said it just did......hmm, they said that it shot about the same as an Edge, but a little softer. The Edge, is longer and heaver.

I really like the pistol and am considering buying one. The pistol handles and points well, like most Commander length pistols. I would love to shoot one or at least see some test run on them.
