First officer size frame?

Hello all. I was wandering who was the first to produce a officer size frame? Was it a factory offering or a custom job?

I don't have a clue, but the first one I saw was the Colt Officer's Model. I would imagine, as usual, someone made a custom and it sparked the creativity of some corporate monkey. Read that as monkey see monkey do.

I figure the OACP was Colt's response to gunzine promotion of the Detonics.
Nonte was showing how to cut the butt off of 1911s well before the Detonics came out.

The Detonics is shorter in the butt than the OACP and any custom conversions were of whatever length struck the gunsmith's fancy, so you could say that the OACP was an original of EXACTLY that length.

I have a Officer's size frame with a Commander length slide and I wish I had just gotten the Commander frame also. I really can't see any advantage to the short butt. I thought it would be easier to carry, but it ain't so.

I added a Smith and Alexander mag well and made it a tad longer.

Air Force General Curtis LeMay commisioned it in the 60's. 8)
It was known as "the general officer's pistol" and was made up in air force machine shops and some other service general grade officers got them for a while.
