accuracy walther p1 1964

Hi All
I recently purchased a used P38/P1. It had problems going into battery, the lock had peened the opening for the lock pin somewhat obstructed causing the pin to bind. I cleared the opening and it functions perfectly. My problem now is that the accuracy is horrible. The gun shoots correctly horizontally, but vertically it shoots low. Sometimes it shoots to POA then low again within the same mag. Low is 6 to 8 inches at 10-12 yards. When in battery the lockup feels rock solid and the barrel looks to be in great shape, rifeling and chamber seem to be in great shape.
Any suggestions?

It's not unusual for P1's to shoot low.
These were military arms, and they were sighted in at the factory at a longer range than civilian guns.

Several choices:

First, try a different brand/type of ammo. Not all guns "like" the same ammo.

Second, try a heavier bullet. This will shoot higher and may correct the problem.

Third, just file the front sight down slightly to bring it up to center of bull at the range you want to shoot at.

As for the shooting POA one shot, and low with another, many people report these problems, and it often turns out they're using some really cheap ammo.

I also have to be fair here: Many times reports of varying low/high shots is the shooter's fault. A new gun, concerns about a problem, or inattention can cause this problem, and it ISN'T confined to "bad" shooters.

I once had a National Guard pistol team member bring me a Colt 1917 revolver that "just wouldn't shoot".
The gun was fine, he just wasn't used to revolvers. After realizing the "problem", he could put 6 rounds into the bull with ease.

Not saying this is YOUR problem, P1's DO often shoot low, and ammo DOES cause problems.
