Components needed to complete my pistol
I recently picked up a SVI hi-cap, extended dustcover frame. I would like to have it built into a USPSA Limited gun. I was hoping to get suggestions from the professional gunsmiths on which parts I should use to complete the project (for instance, brand of slide, barrel, hammer, etc.).
Also, is there a reference list available of all the parts, pins, springs that make up a gun?

If you haven't built a 1911 before, you might want to check out one of the American Gunsmithing Institute's tapes. I think they have one specifically for building a Limited gun on a Hi Cap frame. They show lots of parts and lots of different options. Also, there are some exploded diagrams of 1911s on the internet or you might want to check out Kuhnhausen's Vol. 1 on the 1911.

I think their STI tapes are done by Gene Shuey....I saw some of his work at the USPSA Race Gun Nationals last month where he had a vendor table. Absoutely BEAUTIFUL work!

Thanks for the info on the tapes. I will definitely look into them. However, I would still like to ask for various opinions on the brand names of the parts. For instance, Ed Brown grip safety, Aftec extractor, EGW pin set. Brownells must carry 3-4 types of Ed Brown commander style hammers and 2-3 options on a Sprinco unit. Which brand name parts tend to work best in the SVI type guns or is it best to just stick with the factory parts?

Limited gun components
Well, I'll give you my opinions.
The Koenig hammer, the EGW sear, for sure. Bomar or Wilson(preferable) adjustable sights.
Really, anything available from EGW, Dawson Precision, Brazos Custom and no doubt several others are quality components and anyone you talk to will be using various combinations from the above suppliers as well as STI and SV's parts. Different pistolsmiths and different shooters have their preferences, and these combinations can change - sometimes frequently!
