star pd

Hi I have a Star PD that I like very much. It feeds everything without a bobble it is very accurate but kicks like a mule with 230 gr Fed Hydra Shoks. I find it very comfortable to carry. I would like to have the alloy frame re-finished. Should I have it re anodized, nickled or hardchromed, or use one of the baking laquers from Brownells? Thanks to all who reply.

Gun finishes are pretty subjective, and you're a bit limited with that aluminum frame, but I tend to favor something besides anodizing for aluminum components. The latest generation of "applied" finishes are pretty impressive and my favorite at this point is CERAKOTE. Lots of colors to choose from.

I send all my work to Accurate Plating & Weaponry.

This was a recent CERAKOTE job (OD Green) on an aluminum framed 1911.

How about these colored Teflon treatments? I'm in Costa Rica and have that available to me.

Coming in VERY late on this.....but who knows, maybe it can still be of some value.

I have a Star PD and it is a wonderful, under-appreciated gun. Perfect carry gun. About the size of a Walther PP but with more punch. The alloy frame ( it is said) may get beat up at the feed ramp area...so I considered some kind of hard coating. I had done a Colt 45 MkIV in hard chrome and have been very happy with the results..no wear and no real need for lube.

So I tried something like this for the PD.... but I tried Nickel-Boron, done by Ron Mahovsky in PA. Great job !! and he's also one of the more economical guys doing this. Highly recommended.... look here--->
